Coron is a beautiful area, with tons of shipwrecks for scuba diving and snorkeling, beautiful corals and fantastic limestone rock formations, but the town of Coron itself is rather lackluster from a traveler’s point of view. Unless you are really into the possibility of a live band playing, or partying at a disco. The town of Coron has no beaches and is more useful for a commercial purpose, where locals go shopping for construction equipment and so on.
Or from a traveler’s point of view, there are comfortable hotels and you can go on group or private Coron boat tours during the day time.
But what if you wanted to see all the beautiful sites you can see on the single day boat tours but preferred to bide the rest of your time in a beautiful island resort with a beach? Or see sites you couldn’t from Coron because a multiday tour can take you farther? Island hopping from one beautiful resort to another?
That is where we can help you, whether you’d prefer to stay in a single resort the whole time or hop from one to another, all your options are at your fingertips below, or simply send us a note and we’d be happy to help you decide.
About the Coron area
There are thousands of beautiful islands with tours in the Philippines that every tourist should not miss. Coron has been one of the top most travel destinations when it comes to clear blue water beaches. It is also famous for its beautiful lakes and clear water lagoons. Moreover, it is also popular for divers especially those who love to dive into shipwrecks. There are many spots and islands to explore not just around Coron but also a few hours away by boat, like Black island, Malcapuya island, Banana island, Bulog Dos island, Waling-waling island, Bamboo Island, Pass island, Lusong gun boat and many more.
That being said, two or three days will not be enough to visit all these beautiful islands and lakes. The famous spots around coron island like Siete Pecados, kayangan lake, twin lagoon, and barracuda (baracuda) lake are always packed with people, thus it is hard to avoid the crowds to be able to take beautiful photos without people in the background and to be able to just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Map of the sites and accommodation
Following is a map of the places you can visit and stay at during a multiday private boat tour around the Coron area. Farther from Coron and the busy tourist crowds:
To help you decide where you would like to stay and visit, we have broken down the above into 5 zones, with an explanation for each below.
Zone1 – Kayangan Lake area
- Coral Garden
- Kayangan Lake
- Green Lagoon
- Twin Lagoon
- Barracuda Lake
- Reef Garden
- Skeleton Wreck
- Siete Pecados
- Banol Beach
- Atwayan Beach (sleep)
Tons of very popular sites to see in this area, very close to Coron Town, but for which reason you will also see a lot more tourists (check for best times to visit the Philippines) than in the other, farther away zones. If you don’t mind the crowds, this area is good to see on the first or last day of your tour.
Zone2 – Malcapuya area
- Malcapuya Island
- Banana Island
- Bulog Dos
- Bamboo Island
Further south from Zone1 and already getting off the beaten path. There are also a few places you could overnight here.
There is also the option to venture further south, to Linapacan, itself surrounded by 52 beautiful and remote islands. Tons to see down there if you have the time but are not willing to go all the way down to El Nido.
Example of a multiday private tour which continues south after Zone2 Malcapuya area to visit the beautiful and remote 52 islands surrounding the larger island of Linapacan. There are lots of accommodation options there as well, although they are not as fancy as those in the Coron area (beach huts, simple aircon hotels or tenting on a deserted beach or island).
If you didn’t have to return back to Coron, you could simply continue on to El Nido on our multiday private tours from Coron to El Nido and enjoy some private custom single day boat tours once in El Nido (they are separate).
Zone3 – Chindonan Island area
This area is our most popular. You start at Lusang Gunboat, a shallow World War Two shipwreck which is the best shipwreck for snorkeling in the entire Philippines, and then snorkel at Coral Garden, the best-preserved coral reef we have in the area. Then off to Pass Island, a gorgeous round sand beach with palm trees and picnic tables that also has a good reef for snorkeling. Before Pass Island, you can also stop for lunch if you wish at Marina del Sol, which has an excellent restaurant.
Zone4 – Black Island
Black Island is twice as far from us as Pass Island, at least an hour by speedboat, so the cost is 8,000 pesos extra above our usual price for daily tours. But it’s the most beautiful island we’ve seen in the Philippines or maybe anywhere. It has the steep cliffs and jungle like Coron Island but with an enormous mountain of white sand beach in front. It also has caves you can go into and even swim in, palm trees and picnic tables, excellent reef snorkeling, often with big schools of thousands of small fish, and a shipwreck dive right off the beach. It’s really paradise. We can also stop at South Cay [Pagbinit] and North Cay [Pagtenga] on the way, which have beautiful beaches but much smaller. I recommend spending almost all your time on Black Island.
Zone5 – Calis Point
This is at the beautiful southern tip of Coron Island, where tourist boats rarely go because of the distance (about 45 minutes to an hour from the Chindonan Island area) and because it’s only possible on very calm days to avoid large ocean swells and steep wind waves. Price is 8,000p extra above our usual daily tour price. It’s absolutely beautiful, though, and offers a large secret lagoon where usually there are no other visitors. Many beautiful beaches and a great cave dive like a cathedral.
Prices
For a ballpark figure each day (minimum 2 – single day tours from and back to Coron here) costs about $400 total for 2 people and includes the following.
Tour Inclusions:
- Private boat
- Licensed tour guide
- Boat captain and crew
- Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
- Filtered drinking water in the local blue jugs
- Entrance fees
- Snorkel gear
Because of the wide range of accommodation to choose from, that is charged extra.
Meals
Breakfast is generally eggs to order with bacon or sausage or pancakes or potatoes. Served with fruit. Oatmeal with raisins and soy milk also available.
Lunches and dinners offer a wide range of dishes, both Filipino and foreign. We have good ribeye steaks and sausages (Hungarian, Mexican Chorizo, etc), pepperoni, imported cheeses, etc from a great local German deli. We also can get fresh local tuna, prawns, crab, and lobster. Filipino favorites include chicken adobo, pork or fish sinigang soup, local vegetables, mango float for dessert, etc. Just let us know what you prefer and we can cater to your tastes. We can grill on the BBQ also. Some items, such as steak and seafood, cost extra.
Scuba Diving tours
Scuba diving fun dives are an additional 1500 pesos plus gear 650p per day, tanks 300p (all per pax/person). There’s an entire World War Two Japanese fleet sunk here, so there are so many shipwrecks to explore. Also a lot of reefs, including our house reef, which is especially great for night dives, which are 250 pesos extra. A lot of species of crabs and shrimps, including decorator crabs, and purple bobtail squid, cuttlefish, the occasional seahorse or frogfish, nudibranchs, turtles, etc.
- Diving is with certification or we offer Discover Scuba Diving for those without
- Scuba diving is private and we go to all the sites, including all the wrecks
- Water-skiing and kneeboarding also available, 3000 pesos for 30 minutes.
Our boat
We have three 22-foot fiberglass speedboats which can travel at 25 to 30mph (48kph), more than twice as fast as local boats. But if you’d like something fancier, we also have yachts and live-on-board sailboats and catamarans.
