In the vast Philippines archipelago, there’s a tiny gem called Shimizu Island, nestled in Bacuit Bay. It sits near El Nido, Palawan, inviting travelers with its stunning beauty and intriguing past. Its white sandy beaches and tall rocks make it a stunning place to visit. The island’s untouched beauty and peaceful atmosphere give you a place to relax in nature.

Why does this pretty island have a Japanese name? Years back, tragedy struck during a diving trip near El Nido. A diver got lost in a deep sea cave. Despite searching, they were found days later on a remote rocky spot. So, the island was named Shimizu to remember this sad event.

Different stories talk about Shimizu Island. Each one shows a different side. But one thing is clear: it’s like a guiding light, honoring someone lost at sea. No matter if the diver was a man or a woman, the island’s name is a happy way to remember them, keeping their memory alive!

peaceful and enjoyable snorkeling

We traveled here to do some peaceful and enjoyable snorkeling. There was a bit of a current so it gave us, including our guides, an extra swimming challenge. Ocean water and sunlight were just so relaxing and the fishes were colorful, mostly various shades of blue during our visit. I tested the water without a vest and I am happy enough to say the ocean would not let me sink. I am not sure if that is a good thing for freediving, but for one who relies heavily on vests, this was really comforting. For once, I finally felt I have braved the ocean, a few seconds at a time, that is!
