How to Make an Igo Juice70 Adapter Adapter Power Tip

Back to How to Design a Caravan

Sometimes I struggle with a problem for a long time and finally stumble on an alternative solution, and have to say DUH! Living in a truck while I travel around Europe, and depending on limited power from solar panels and caravan batteries, I have migrated some of my frequent power consumption devices (mostly my laptop) to the use of this handy adapter. After all, the solar panels are 12V, charging through the regulator the 12V caravan batteries, and one apparently loses about 15% of power during each of the conversion processes: the first through the inverter to create 240V from 12V, and then back down to 16V for the laptop wall plug adapter. But when wanting to use the nifty Igo adapter, which could intelligently and automatically convert from 12V directly to the required 16V, I discovered that I lacked the necessary adapter plug < , and that ordering one in the more obscure countries I like to travel to was not so easy. Not to mention rather ridiculously expensive, as such accessories are often intentionally. But at some point the “brilliant” thought occurred to me that I can make my own. In a very easy way.

Basically go to any half decent electrical shop and you will need two things. One is a universal adapter (such as 240V to an adjustable 3.5V, 6V, 9V and 12V) which has all the necessary adapter plug endings. The more plugs the merrier. Than it is a simple manner of making an adapter from the Igo plug to the universal adapter plug. Take your Igo plug(s) with you to the electrical store and see if they can think of something, or sell you something already made. That’s it!
