Road trip Guimaras

My favourite way to usually explore a country or territory is by motorbike, and this is no exception. Along your travels you might notice a regular horde of bicyclists escaping the city for the weekend.

There are two ferry systems taking you to the island from Iloilo. One is for vehicles and passengers (Jordan Roro Port – underlined yellow in map above), while the other is faster and for passengers only (Sto. Rosario).

When you get off the passenger only ferry, it is easy enough to find someone to rent a motorbike from. Worst case you may have to hunt around a bit and haggle, or try your luck first in Iloilo City and take the other ferry across.

I would recommend going counter clockwise around the island, first stop its main and central town, Jordan, where on the way you can stop at Hacienda Justina for a snack, some kids fun and boot around in the jungle for a while on a four wheeler.

Continue on to Jordan, the island’s largest town, and stop in for a real meal at either Biking’s Seafood, very good for seafood, there’s a monkey in a cage for child amusement, but the service can be rather slow; or my town’s favourite, The Mango Island Cafe. My favourite is always the Hungarian Sausage and there is a big playground outside for the children.

From there you can go to Alobijod, where there is a nice beach full of resorts (California Coral Beach Resort shown in map above) and you can do a nice boat tour there, stay overnight if you wish. Great beach for the kids. There is also a floating park at the Andana Resort further up the road on your right hand side as you drive in. They also have a fantastic swimming pool, although the food is rather mediocre.

From there you could drive to Guisi Lighthouse, a fun tourist attraction with a nice, more quiet beach below.

From there you can go stay overnight at Nature’s Eye Beach Resort (circled in yellow in the map above). They have several beaches nearby, and their food is great with a fantastic view. Before you get there you could also consider the Makarios Aquafarm and Restaurant. Great food overall, especially seafood, and more affordable. It is located on a lake with a nice view. Alternatively you could consider staying at La Puerta El Paraizo Beach Resort, which also has two beaches.

The next day you can do the Taklong Marine Reserve boat tour.

After that you can proceed to the Czech Beach House, if you’d like to try something different, although I do not find their Czech cuisine impressive, but their home made mango liqueur is fantastic, as well as their other concoctions and sauces, and they have a small beach and swimming pool if you care to sleep over. Alternatively you can dine at Biking’s Bay Seafood (circled with B below it, and yes, same establishment as the previous Biking’s restaurant mentioned), much better cuisine and nice, seaside dining.

By this time you are on the nicest stretch of the highway. Calm curves with little traffic, and beautiful country scenery.

You can continue your pleasant drive around the island until you get to around the San Lorenzo Wind Farm (circled in yellow on map). Just driving along the coastline watching these monstrous turbines slowly spin is fantastic enough, but if you have time for a little excursion, you can climb up to the lookout (video below).

Speaking of wind, you can then continue to the Playa De Paraiso Beach Resort, which apparently hosts kitesurfing. There is also apparently good wind at the northern tip of the island and we have yet to research this, so keep in tune as we continue to update this page, since we live on the island and always on the lookout for a new adventure!

Or if you want the adventure of a lifetime, you can consider our boat tours in the Palawan area, the jewel of the country.
