Thank you for applying to be one of our boatmen. We organise more than 100 tours per year.
Here are our conditions:
generally we offer 30,000p for a four day tour between Coron and El Nido. 5,000p for each extra or less day. 5,000p extra during the Christmas season between Dec 22 and Jan 2. Boat sizes here. 5,000p extra for larger boats that can accommodate more than 6 people.
Conditions:
- You must have permits for Sibaltan and Coron to carry foreign passengers.
- You must have lifejackets for all passengers and comply with all other regulations of the coastguard.
- You must have functional snorkeling gear for every passenger.
- You should have tents, mattresses, sheets, pillows and portable solar powered fans, but I understand it takes time to get these things. Please try your best. You can charge 500p/night for the tents and something for the fans. It can get hot and uncomfortable sleeping in tents at night.
- You can charge 200p per meal per person (you are welcome to catch fish along the way and use that - foreigners will love fresh fish and would even be glad to try to catch some themselves), three times a day, but should include some snacks, preferably healthy fruits (foreigners do not like too much junk food) and a 750ml bottle of Emperador or similar for the day, per group. They can buy their own beers etc.
- If they invite others to join, they should pay you 1,000p extra for each of them above the number originally agreed upon. If they invite too many for your boat size capacity, let me know asap so that I can arrange a larger sized boat.
- You must respect the coral reefs and the nature. Be careful and conscious of where you throw your anchor. Tourists do not like to see such blatant disregard.
- You must take the customers where they want, as long as it is roughly along the normal route. If they want to go out of the way, we can negotiate the final price for extra gas before they book. If they want to go to Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoons (both VERY POPULAR!), the caves in Linapacan, you must arrange the proper entry tickets for them. You can charge them for that but do not charge extra. Nor can you charge extra for any environmental fees. Just charge them what is honest, because all this is explained in advance and no one likes to be cheated.
- Water is free. You can fill up your blue jugs for free on several islands. If the guest does not trust it and wants to drink from bottled water, they can buy it themselves at any grocery store along the way.
- Accommodation is difficult. Our estimated price is 500p/person/night, but if they want aircon, more expensive. Do not charge extra, be honest and serve your customer if you want more work from me.
- Every captain should have a smartphone with GPS and maps.me installed (more info through link at the bottom of this page). It does not require internet and is an easy way how to find places. Sometimes guests like to be picked up or dropped off at their resort on some little island somewhere.
- If it is very wavy or stormy, it is better to ask the guest how they feel. If they are afraid and their tour becomes horrifying for them, it is best to cancel it, or work out an amicable agreement with the customer. Otherwise they might leave bad reviews on the internet about us, or worse, complain to the coastguards, who could potentially shut us down. Either way, the costs could be much greater, so please be careful. I can use the deposit/advance payment to cover your gas and crew costs if you had to cancel at some point. If you cancel a tour after some days, try to work out an amicable agreement with the customer for them to pay some of it, and I can pitch in something from the deposit if necessary.
Some customers do not want to think or struggle with details, so the website has a system where they can book an ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE TOUR. The website generates a price based on the above, with 200p per meal etc. The package includes 3x300p entry fee to three places (such as Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoons and the caves in Linapacan), environmental fee, and average 500p accommodation per person per night. Unfortunately you will need to calculate the total costs. Obviously if they want aircon in a fancier hut, you must explain to them the costs. Often they will leave a tip. Just be honest and lets build a good business together.
Make sure you are well knowledged of all the accommodation opportunities and snorkeling spots. The most important is that the guest is happy. Do not take shortcuts.
Please note that the customer is entitled to a 5,000p discount at the end if they are not satisfied. This rarely happens, but it is your job to make the customer happy. If they are assholes, which can also happen but very rarely does, they have been warned that you can drop them off at the nearest island and they can find their own way.
Note that they should always pay half in cash before boarding the boat at the beginning, and the second half at the halfway point. If they are unhappy, you and them can communicate with me and I will try to resolve. But generally, everyone is quite happy and simply be honest and make sure they are happy, and all should be okay.
DEPOSIT
The deposit payment they pay in advance becomes my payment for my work organising all this, but can be returned for several reasons:
- If there is a typhoon and it is impossible or unsafe to take the guests, I will return the deposit to them. But often you can just delay their trip a few days. Come to an agreement with them. Sometimes they cannot change because they need to catch a flight back home.
- If they cancel last minute but you have already ridden your boat a long way and paid a lot of gas to pick them up, I compensate you for your gas expenses up to the deposit amount. This is a slight risk but rarely happens.
At the end of each tour I always ask them how it went. If they are happy I ask them to leave a review of us on the internet. Good reviews are very important for our future success. For the future success of this business I naturally give preference to boatmen who make the guests happier.
Have a great trip!
